Piel de Sapo:
Oval melon. Green skin with slight furrows and dark speckles resembling a toad’s skin (hence its name in Spanish). Crispy and very sweet flesh.

Galia:
Small, round melon. Smooth, delicately veined skin. Flesh usually green near the skin and white inside. Sweet, aromatic taste. Soft, juicy texture.

Charentais:
This round melon’s characteristic taste and smell make it very popular. Yellowish-green, clearly veined skin. Firm, sweet, orange flesh.

Piel de Sapo:

Galia:

– Flavourful, aromatic, sweet and non-acidic.
– Skin from pale green to yellow/Brown.
– Flesh from pale green to pale yellow.
– Sugar content: min. 11ºBrix.

Charentais:
This round melon’s characteristic taste and smell make it very popular. Yellowish-green, clearly veined skin. Firm, sweet, orange flesh.
– Salmon orange flesh.
– Sugar content: min. 12ºBrix.

Origin

– Almería and Murcia.

Storage and transport

– Galia and Charentais cultivars are not very cold-sensitive and can be stored for one or two weeks at low temperatures of 0ºC to 4 °C.
– The Piel de Sapo cultivar can be stored for 2 to 6 weeks at 7 – 10ºC.
– The ideal relative humidity for storage is 85 – 90%, essential in order to maintain quality after harvesting. Exposure to higher than recommended humidity for extended periods of time can damage the melon’s skin.
